The purpose of the Republic Mayor's Court is to provide the community with a local judicial forum to rule on misdemeanor cases that are alleged to be in violation of the Ordinances of the Village of Republic. The Mayor's Court also provides a Violation Bureau to collect payments for violations that do not require a court appearance. 

Republic Mayor's Court hears misdemeanor offenses that occur in the jurisdiction of the Republic Police Division, with the exception of Driving under Suspension, Drug Offenses and Driving under the Influence. In addition, domestic violence cases are excluded from Mayor's Court jurisdiction. Mayor's Court is in session at 6:00 pm generally once a month on Wednesday. Other types of cases heard by the Mayor's Court include, but are not limited to, traffic violations, disorderly conduct, animal-related cases and nuisance cases.

About Us

The Clerk of Courts for the Republic Mayor's Court oversees the administration and operations of the Court. Cases brought before the Court are heard by the Magistrate, Susan J. Phillips.

The Republic Clerk of Court's office is located in the Republic Village Office Building, located at 219 Washington Street, Republic, Ohio 44867. Office hours are 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on court dates.

Payments/Waivers

Citation waivers are required to be paid PRIOR to the assigned court date or your appearance is required in court. Payment plans can be arranged with the Court Clerk prior to your court date. Payments or waivers can be made several different ways:

1) US Mail: You may send a cashiers check or money order to Republic Mayor's Court, 219 Washington Street, Po Box 219, Republic Ohio, 44867.

2) Telephone: You may pay by check or credit card by calling Official Payments Corporation at 1-888-357-8394 (Agency Code 7815)

3) Internet: Please visit Official Payment Corporation on line to pay by check or credit card. (Agency Code 7815)

4) In Person: You may come to the Village office and pay in person with cashiers check, money order, personal check or credit card on court dates.

 PLEASE CONTACT THE COURT FOR MORE INFORMATION.

If you did not show proof of insurance to the law enforcement officer at the time of your offense, YOU MUST ENCLOSE PROOF OF INSURANCE WITH YOUR PAYMENT.  Failure to provide proof of insurance will result in the suspension of your driving rights for a period of not less than 90 days.

 

Appeal Process

If you are found guilty in the Republic Mayor's Court you have the right to appeal your case to the Tiffin Municipal court, pursuant to ORC section 1905.23. You have 10 days (including weekends) from date of conviction to file an appeal at the Clerk of Court's office.

1. Will the mayor be hearing my case at the Mayor's Court?
No, the Court is presided over by the Magistrate who decides the cases.

2. How can I contest a ticket?
You can contest a ticket by appearing at the Clerk of Courts office on the hearing date notated on the ticket.

3. How can I find out when my court date is?
The court date is noted on the bottom of the citation. For any other questions regarding a court date please contact the Clerk of Courts office.

4. How much is my fine?
The fine and cost is listed on the back of your citation. If you are still unsure please contact the Clerk of Courts office.

5. How do I enter my plea? Can I fax it to the Court?
Pleas must be submitted to the Court in person at the time of the defendant's appearance before the Court.

6. Is my attorney required to file all forms in person?
No. Attorneys may fax motions and pleas to be filed and requests for discovery. The original form must be sent to the Court within 72 hours.

7. How can I receive a continuance for my case?
You must appear at the Clerk of Courts office and sign a form requesting a continuance.

8. Can I change the jurisdiction for my case to the Tiffin Municipal Court?
Yes. You must contact the Clerk of Court.

9. Do I have to appear at the court to pay a citation waiver?
No. You can sign the back of the citation and mail the signed citation along with the payment in the amount of the waiver, fine and cost, written on the back of the citation.

10. Do I have to appear in court to establish a payment plan?
No. You can contact the Clerk of Court to establish a payment plan. Additional fees will be assessed for this service.
